Daily Nourishment for February 7, 2024: “Weighed Down” with Sarah L. Sanderson, Abigail Thomas, The Mission, and More
Daily Nourishment Read Time: 35 seconds
Pause/Prompt/Practice Time: 15 minutes
“The most important thing writing has taught me is this: the more vulnerable you allow yourself to be, the stronger you become.” - Abigail Thomas
Prompt.
In the clip, a former slave trader is attempting to do penance by dragging the weight of his previous life wherever he goes.
What is weighing you down today? Maybe past regrets, or lies you’ve internalized, or simply the stresses and burdens of the present. Set a timer for five minutes and begin writing or drawing these feelings.
Practice.
Now, watch the next clip from The Mission, in which Rodrigo is released from his burden. What would it feel like for the things that are weighing you down to simply be cut off and flung away? Who do you need to ask to do this for you? Write a letter to someone—yourself, God, or another person in your life—asking for the release you need.
