Daily Nourishment for February 6, 2024: “Stumbling Stones” with Sarah L. Sanderson, Clint Smith, Slips, Trips, Falls, and More

Daily Nourishment Read Time: 40 seconds
Pause/Prompt/Practice Time: 10-15 minutes

“I tried to do the math in my head as my feet followed the chronology beneath them. But there were 186 steel plates, and as the numbers reflecting each day’s human cargo rose and fell—ranging from a few dozen to a few hundred to more than 1,000—it became impossible.” - Clint Smith

Pause.

Take a few moments to watch some of this humorous video with slips, trips, and falls.

Prompt.

When was the last time you tripped over something? Take five minutes to write about that experience.

Practice.

Now think about a “stumbling stone” as a metaphor. Despite the painful experience of tripping or stumbling, sometimes, when an unexpected idea trips us up, it can end up moving us in a positive direction.

As you go about your day, be watching for surprises—in your writing and in your life—that you may at first stumble over. How can those surprises move you to a place you didn’t expect to go? Write about them.
