Prompt.
Artists throughout human history and all around the world have used stone as a medium. Many times, the impulse to work in stone stems from a desire to create something lasting.
What do you hope to create—whether through your writing or another aspect of your life—that will last beyond your lifetime? What has been passed on to you from those who came before? Take five minutes to write a response to these questions.
Practice.
Stone can be used for elaborate sculptures, or something as simple as a stone pile of remembrance. Take a moment to make your own stone pile of remembrance.
What good things do you want to remember and celebrate—from the past week, from this year, or from your whole life? Draw a pile of stones on a piece of blank paper, and label each one with something to remember and celebrate. Or, create a pile of actual stones in your house or yard for this purpose.
