Daily Nourishment for November 8, 2024: Yes, Your Writing Matters

Daily Nourishment Read Time: 45 seconds
Pause/Prompt/Practice Time: 11-13 minutes

If you’re not sure if your writing matters, discover how writing helps you belong.

Pause.

Take some deep breaths and meditate on this sentence for a minute or two: “The practice of spirituality is a way of looking at a world where you’re not alone.”

—Rick Rubin, The Creative Act: A Way of Being

Prompt.

How does writing help you belong to yourself, others, the divine, and the world?

How does writing intersect with your spirituality?

Take seven minutes to answer these questions by making lists, taking notes, journaling, or starting a new essay, poem, or story.

Practice.

When you’re deciding whether or not to write on a particular day at a particular time, think about how writing helps you feel less alone. Strengthen the connections that already exist between the act of writing and having a greater sense of belonging.
