Daily Nourishment for March 9, 2024: A Posture of Gratitude with Nicole Parsons

Daily Nourishment Read Time: 40 seconds
Pause/Prompt/Practice Time: 15 minutes

Gratitude for the things we don't think about.

Pause.

Find a quiet place with some privacy. Find a way that feels comfortable for you to kneel or bow. Then repeat the words “thank you” at your own pace, silently or out loud. Spend two minutes in this attitude and posture of gratefulness.

Prompt.

Take five minutes to write a whole bunch of very short thank you notes to the things you see in your immediate environment. Be direct and specific (“Thank you pen for not being out of ink.”).

This will feel silly, but write as many thanks to as many different things as you can in five minutes.

Practice.

Pick one of the objects you just thanked, one that feels like you just now really notice it. Write about it for 8 minutes. Observe it closely. How is it made? What does it look like, feel like? What can you imagine about the person who dreamed it up, designed it? How much intention and work, trial and error might have been put into this object before it came to your space?
