Daily Nourishment for March 15, 2024: When Language Fails with Heather Christle and Catherine Ricketts

Daily Nourishment Read Time: 35 seconds
Pause/Prompt/Practice Time: 10-15 minutes

"They say perhaps we cry when language fails, when words can no longer adequately convey our hurt. When my crying is not wordless enough I beat my head with my fists." -- Heather Christle, The Crying Book

Pause.

Set a timer for two minutes and meditate on Elegy to the Spanish Republic by Robert Motherwell.

Prompt.

Find some art materials in your house--this could be as simple as a pen or markers or as elaborate as found scraps of colored paper and glue. Using as much time as you have available, portray your tears visually.

Practice.

Is there another mode of expression that is best suited to convey your tears? Meditate on tears using music, cooking, movement--whatever comes naturally to you.
