Daily Nourishment for September 26, 2024: How to Care for Your Body, Mind, and Soul During Online Workshops and Gatherings

Daily Nourishment Read Time: 40 seconds
Pause/Prompt/Practice Time: 15 minutes

Most of us need to pause and check in with our bodies, minds, and souls more before, during, and after online (and in-person!) workshops and gatherings.

Pause.

Take a few deep breaths with a six-count inhale and a six-count exhale. Then do a few rounds of the breath prayer using the inhale and exhale prompts below:

Inhale: I want to notice what I need
Exhale: I want to receive what I need

Prompt.

This week I’ve shared several ideas for those who want to be more intentional about caring for themselves during online workshops and classes. (These ideas are also great for in-person workshops, classes, work meetings, etc.)

A few ideas can be found in this IG Live video and caption.

I shared three more ideas in this email newsletter.

And here are a couple of more ideas:

  1. Make it a solo writing retreat. Use ideas from the At-Home Solo Writing Retreat Guide to set apart the online workshop or class as a time to focus more on yourself while logging out of other work responsibilities, minimizing interruptions, and letting everyone else fend for themselves.

  2. If you’re participating in an online workshop or class at home while other people are in the house with you, try incorporating some of these tips to reduce disruptions and honor your body, soul, and mind.

  3. Pause and check in before, during, and after. There are many befores, durings, and afters to choose from. See the Practice section below for additional guidance on this.

Practice.

Set a timer for 10 minutes and write in response to the Pause and Prompt above and/or the questions below.

—How and when can you check in with your body, mind, and soul adequately to notice what you want and need for an upcoming online workshop or class?

—What are the different befores, durings, and afters that might be good times for you to check in with yourself and give attention to what your body, mind, and soul need and want in the moment? For example: there’s the day before the online workshop, the week before, the hour before, five minutes before, etc.

—How can you set apart some time after workshop sessions and after the entire event is over to process what you learned, take notes about insights you had, and jot down questions for further study, research, or contemplation?

—How can you be more mindful of helping others pause before, during, and after meetings and gatherings you host online or in person?
