Daily Nourishment for July 28, 2024: How to Have Some Glen Time after You Return Home

Daily Nourishment Read Time: 30 seconds
Pause/Prompt/Practice Time: 15 minutes

Please Note: Lauren Winner will provide all new Daily Nourishment Pauses, Prompts, and Practices for the coming week—Monday, 7/29 through Friday, 8/2. She’ll close out our Glen-ish theme through Wednesday and focus on summer/August on Thursday and Friday. Also, I hope to start posting earlier in the day as soon as I recover from travel and illness. Thanks so much for reading and receiving good things from this practice.

Pause.

Take six deep breaths with a six-count inhale and a six-count exhale while looking at art on Lanecia A. Rouse’s Instagram account.

Prompt.

Here’s something I passed on to Christina Kukuk who led the Glen Transition to Home session yesterday morning that I was supposed to lead:

Try having 15 minutes of personal "Glen Time" most days. Let the lists you made earlier be inspiration for your personal Glen Time. What can you give yourself for 15 minutes most days? Listen to music by Liz Vice and other favorite musicians? Look at art online by Lanecia Rouse and other favorite artists? Read books by Sophfronia Scott, Gabrielle Bates, Jamie Quatro, and other favorite writers? Try engaging with someone else's art for 7 or so minutes then respond in some way for 7 or so minutes through journaling or note-taking. Or simply receieve whatever the various forms of art offer you.

Practice.

If you attended the Glen, how can you incorporate more elements of what you appreciated about your time there into your typical daily and weekly rhythms?

If you have attended tbe Glen in the past, what could this look like for you?

If you have never attended the Glen or will never attend the Glen, how can you give yourself 15 minutes of good art + faith goodness most days?

Spiritual Direction for Writers® Daily Nourishment is one way. But is there something more personal, more custom that you can give yourself?

Peruse these videos on the Image InStudio website. This is a great place to start to put yourself in the way of some art + faith goodness.

Today’s Prompt and Practice were inspired by the gathering Christina Kukuk led yesterday morning to help Glen attendees transition home and incorporate more of their favorite elements of The Glen into their typical daily and weekly rhythms. It’s always nice to put ourselves in the way of more good things.

During the month of July, Spiritual Direction for Writers® Daily Nourishment will feature Glen Workshop facilitators and other Glen-ish people, places, and things. Enjoy!
