The Fourth Sunday of Advent

I lit my bathroom writing space/Zoom space Advent candles for this morning’s Spiritual Direction for Writer’s Advent Co-Writing Session. These candles in my bathroom are my only Advent candles right now because we have done ZERO holiday decorating aside from a bowl of White Chocolate + Peppermint Hershey’s Kisses (which are so delicious, by the way) on the kitchen counter, and having all four of these candles burning does feel like a low-key fire hazard because of the size of the space and the piles of books and papers nearby. Four candles seem to increase the fire hazard risk. I was fine with three. For some reason, four feels like more than just one more than three.

But I survived. I didn’t burn down the bathroom.

Maybe we’ll decorate a bit today. We’ll see.

Either way, here’s the Collect for the Fourth Sunday of Advent from the Book of Common Prayer:

Fourth Sunday of Advent, Rite One
We beseech thee, Almighty God, to purify our consciences by thy daily visitation, that when thy Son our Lord cometh he may find in us a mansion prepared for himself; through the same Jesus Christ our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with thee, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

A Question for You: What are some of the ways God visits you daily? The ordinary ways, the extraordinary ways, the humorous ways, the weird ways, all of the ways.
